Fargesia 'rufa'
Originating from Sichuan China,
and exceptionally cold hardy, this bamboo has beautiful orange-red cane
sheaths adding a glow and warmth that is very appealing. This is a new
garden bamboo that is perfect for those looking for a smaller specimen.
Leaves do not curl in the sun and its small stature make this bamboo
perfect for a small garden or courtyard planting. Shoot production is
truly prolific!

Fargesia 'robusta'
This is a beautiful clumping bamboo with leaves that are shiny and deep olive green. The new shoots develop early on in spring. The geometric pattern of the white colored cane sheaths against the dark green canes is strikingly ornamental. This is a stunning new garden bamboo with a dense erect growth habit. Either plant alone or as a tall privacy screen.

Fargesia murieliae
"Umbrella Bamboo" has delicate pea green foliage and a graceful weeping habit, making this an ideal bamboo to place next to a pond. Leaves are small and thin, giving it a rather delicate look belying its hardiness. During sub-freezing weather the leaves curl until temperatures moderate. It looks best when planted in the shade. We are pleased to offer new generation seedlings of Fargesia murieliae. The buyer need not worry about flowering for another 60 plus years. Grown from seed!

dracocephala
Indigenous to the forested mountains of China, "Dragons Head" bamboo grows at elevations from 3,600 to 7,200 feet, in areas inhabited by the Giant Panda, and is one of the bamboos on its menu. Growing with a weeping habit it forms a dense clump that can be used to make an almost solid screen if there is sufficient room for a plant with a weeping form. Leaves won't curl in the sun or the cold, but protect them from too much hot afternoon sun, or they will burn. This is a perfect clumping bamboo if you're looking for medium height

Just Arrived! Fargesia scabrida 16' Sun Tolerant
A great "new" bamboo for sun or shade AND is cold hardy to -10 degrees F according to most sources. We have not tested it here at our nursery but will keep you posted. We all have high hopes for this as it's upright habit lends itself to the ever popular privacy hedge.... 15' tall! We can hardly wait. The culm sheaths have a wonderful reddish-orange color which is striking against the dark green of the new canes. Emerald green leaves are longer than F. robusta and F. rufa.

Fargesia denudata
Similar to Fargesia murielae in form and color, F. denudata has shorter branches and smaller leaves, which cause the gracefully arching canes to stand out individually. Although not as hardy as F. murielae, it is hardy to -10°F. Unlike F. murielae and F. nitida, it does not have leaves that yellow and drop in the fall, making it a greener plant through the winter. Like other Fargesias, it is a clumping bamboo and is happy with some protection from hot afternoon sun. It is mostly suitable for areas that have the cooling in nighttime hours more common in Northern states, not in Southern states.
